La classe de 2EPC s’est rendue au cimetière américain le mardi 5 mai 2026. Les élèves ont bénéficié d’une visite guidée. Pour certains il s’agissait d’une découverte.
Le cimetière américain de Saint-Avold, le plus grand d’Europe pour la seconde guerre mondiale, comporte 10489 tombes.
Le mur des disparus placé de chaque côté de la chapelle recense 444 noms de soldats.
Chaque année a lieu la cérémonie du Memorial Day à Saint-Avold (voir photos du 24 mai 2026 )

Salvador J. Lara was born on July 11, 1920, in Riverside, California, in the Casa Blanca neighborhood. Before joining the U.S. Army, he worked in citrus production to support his family. He served as a Private First Class in the 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division during World War II.
He received the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism on May 27–28, 1944, near Aprilia, Italy. During these two days, Lara led multiple attacks against enemy positions. He destroyed machine‑gun nests, forced enemy soldiers to surrender, and continued fighting even after being seriously wounded in the leg. His actions allowed his unit to advance and capture their objective. His courage went far beyond the call of duty.
Salvador Lara died on September 1, 1945, at the age of 25. He is buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery in Saint‑Avold, France. Today, he is remembered as a brave young soldier who sacrificed his life for freedom.
